What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer pressure and focused techniques to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.
It’s particularly helpful if you have long-standing tightness, stubborn knots, or areas that feel restricted and don’t ease with lighter massage. The pressure is deeper than Swedish massage, but your therapist will always work within your comfort level and check in with you throughout the session.
At Bodyfix Clinic in Stoneleigh, we use deep tissue work to help release chronic tension, improve mobility, and support recovery — whether the tightness comes from training, work posture, old injuries, or everyday stress.
How Deep Tissue Massage can Help
-
Release chronic muscle tension and stubborn knots
-
Improve range of movement and flexibility
-
Ease aches linked to posture, training or repetitive strain
-
Support recovery after injury or intense activity
-
Reduce the feeling of tightness and restriction in specific areas
Many people choose deep tissue massage when they want more targeted work on particular problem areas rather than a purely relaxing treatment.
What to expect
We’ll start with a brief conversation about your symptoms, lifestyle and the areas you’d like to focus on. During the treatment your therapist will use firmer pressure, slower strokes and specific techniques to work into the deeper layers of muscle.
It’s normal to feel some intensity in tight areas, but it should never be unbearable — just let the therapist know if you need the pressure adjusted. You may feel some mild soreness afterwards, similar to the feeling after exercise, which usually settles within a day or two.
