What is a Pregnancy & Postnatal Massage?
Tired or painful neck, shoulders, back, hips and legs, or just overall exhaustion during pregnancy and the postnatal period? With our pregnancy and postnatal massage, the treatment is tailored specifically for you.
Attention is focused to areas where you are experiencing muscle tension. The session offers comfortable positioning and appropriate massage techniques used throughout.
And importantly, some much-needed time for you to switch off and relax. You deserve it!
Is the Pregnancy and Postnatal Massage for me?
Pregnancy and postnatal treatments are adapted to your stage of pregnancy or recovery following birth. A consultation is completed before treatment to ensure massage is appropriate for you.
The pregnancy and postnatal massage is advised for anyone over 12 weeks gestation. If there are no complications or a high-risk pregnancy status, then the session focuses on comfortable positioning, such as side lying or semi-reclined, using gentler massage techniques and ongoing consultation. Pregnancy massages can be performed prior to 6 weeks before your due date.
For any postnatal stage massages, if the birth involved a Cesarean Section, the massage will not be performed on the abdomen until at least 8 weeks after surgery, when the scar is fully healed with no weeping.
If there are any complications with Cesarean section wounds, infections, fevers, unexplained significant pain, DVT or heavy bleeding, then it is not possible to carry out the postnatal massage.
Following a C-section, complicated pregnancy or birth, or where there are ongoing medical concerns, you may be asked to obtain approval from your midwife, GP or other healthcare professional before treatment.
