What is Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranial osteopathy is a more gentle form of osteopathy, which can be used to treat people of all ages, but is particularly suited to treating babies and children. Our cranial osteopaths have a highly developed sense of touch that allows them to feel subtle changes in the tissues of the body where there may be tension leading to strain and dysfunction.
Throughout life the adult body takes on various stresses including physical, traumatic, emotional and nutritional stress. The layers of stress accumulate in the tissues of the body, reducing flexibility of the muscles, ligaments and joints and ultimately affecting the ability to adapt to further stresses and predisposing the body to injury.
Babies and infants can also suffer similar stresses even at such a young age. Strain and tensions can develop in womb and during labour leading to unsettled behaviour, difficulties feeding, winding, sleeping and disrupted bowel movements.
Cranial osteopathy involves specialist techniques using the gentle application of varying pressures to the skull and tissues of the body.
